On Tuesday, Oct. 23, 43-year-old Ocean View High School (OVHS) science teacher and co-chair of their science department, Andrew Bueno-Potts, was accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy over the course of five months from July 2017 and December 2017.

The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) arrested Potts at his Long Beach home after the victim came forward in July 2018 to report four incidents, according to a written LBPD statement.

Though Potts taught at OVHS, the minor never attended the school. They met at an event held at a school event hosted by OVHS. Potts and the minor became friends, and Potts had the minor live with him. Further investigation revealed the incidents involved three sexual assaults and one attempted sexual assault.

“At the time of the assault, the suspect would provide the victim with alcohol and alkyl nitrate, a chemical sometimes used as a euphoric inhalant,” said LBPD’s statement.

Potts was charged with sodomy with a person under 18, sex with a foreign object with a person under 18, oral copulation with a person under 18, harmful material sent to a minor, sodomy and sexual battery.

He is being held at the Long Beach City Jail with a bail of $500,000.
