On senior night, the Barons girls’ basketball overpowered the Laguna Beach Breakers 73-15.

Freshman Zoe Ziegler began the game with a free throw followed by senior Meghan Lai stealing the ball from the Breakers and scoring to start off the game 4-0. The Barons continued to dominate throughout the quarter as senior Iris Hasegawa lead the team with eight points going into the second quarter, the Barons leading 23-4.

Within seconds of the second quarter, the Barons struck first once again as senior Stephanie Tsai rebounded and made a shot to increase the Barons’ lead to 25-4. The Breakers had multiple chances to score, but their lackluster offense was at the mercy of the Barons’ sturdy defense. Shots by sophomores Kristen Ho and Caitlin Okawa, along with scores from Hasegawa, Tsai and junior Tiffany Shimizu combined for an overpowering 36-5 score. The Breakers made two shots but the Barons followed up with two shots of their own from senior Sabrina Gabb and the Hasegawa, ending the second quarter with a score of 40-9.

The second half began with a shot made by Lai. Freshman Madison Suekawa along with Ho and Wong, took over the offense and further increased the Breakers’ deficit. The quarter ended with a clean three pointer by Kristen Ho and the girls entering the last quarter with a score of 60 to 13. The barons earned 20 points in this quarter, while the breakers have earned 4.

Fourth quarter began almost instantly with a three pointer by the Lady Barons. Key players in this quarter included Hasegawa, Tsai and Lai. Hasegawa banked a three pointer, and the quarter finished seconds after the Breakers scored a shot, ending the game with a result of 73-15.
