On Friday, our girls’ varsity volleyball team lost against the Edison Chargers with a score of 0-3 in the game of the week and their first league game.

The game had an intense first set with the barons keeping the score tied. Both teams fought hard for the lead and with multiple points scored by senior Phoebe Minch, the Barons were able to gain the lead. Things were looking good for the Barons when they started pulling away from the chargers with points scored due to great team plays. Unfortunately, the barons slipped due to faulty passes and a series of spikes from the chargers. Eventually, the chargers caught up to surpass the Barons and win the first set with a close score of 20-25.

“We started off really strong and we should’ve won the first set, but we broke down and started to receive more which caused us to struggle a little bit which let them comeback,” said Minch.

The second set began with the Barons determined to make a comeback. Senior Jenna Peterson showed great effort with many dives and digs. The Barons worked together to assist Minch, who scored a total of 6 points in the set. Though the Barons fought hard, they were unable to keep up with the Chargers. The second set ended with a score of 17-25.

Having lost two sets, their chances at victory were slim, but senior Clara Pham showed a valiant effort with back to back digs, but both possesions unfortunately ended with points for the Chargers. Minch also played hard, scoring another four points, yet it wasn’t enough. The Chargers pulled away and won their third and final set with a score of 17-25, bringing the game to an end with a total score of 0-3.

“I think we played pretty well for our first league game. We did well with blocking, but I think we can improve on passing and running the middle more, but other than that we were pretty versatile and ran a lot of plays. Hopefully we will improve more in the course of this season, ” said Pham.
