With school back in full swing, here are some books to help you catch up on the hordes of books that came out during the summer and to get into the mood of school.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

A chosen one tale with a twist– perfect for those who want a comforting trope to go back to, but with a twist to keep readers on edge. Simon Snow doesn’t want to be the oh almighty Chosen One, and can’t keep up with the things it demands from him. And on top of that, his nemesis, Baz, is looking hotter than usual. Can Simon keep up with the demands of Watford School of Magicks and defeating the evil?

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

Rapping is what makes Bri come alive– to say the least, it’s her passion and life source. Her dream? Become the greatest rapper of all time. But when her mom loses her job and all of a sudden the threat of homelessness becomes a looming reality, what will Bri do to save her family?

The Music of What Happens by Bill Koningsberg

Max and Jordan. Two opposites and nothing alike. When they meet–really meet for the first time outside of English class and at Jordan’s run down and failing food truck, a spark is ignited. But how much are they willing to give up to be together? And what will it take for two kids from two different worlds to make it work?

American Royals by Katharine McGee

What if, when America was created, George Washington didn’t become the president, but rather the first king? Now, the House of Washington still stands, and the three young royals are the gossip of the people, just like every royal family. From Princess Beatrice who will one day rule to her younger siblings, twins Prince Jefferson and the troublesome spare, Princess Samantha. And with two sets of eyes settled on Prince Jefferson, what will happen to his heart? And what will happen when drama meets the family?
