Different options for health credit

By Brian Pham, Staff Writer

Health is one of the classes you need to graduate from high school. In this class you learn about aspects of health, including alcohol and drug use, diseases and sexual reproduction. While it is most commonly taken freshman year as a semester-long elective, there are other options for those that can’t fit it into their schedule.

Zero Period Hybrid Health: This class is similar to the health class offered during the day, but the main difference is that it meets once a week and most of the work is online. The class meets once a week for a lesson and discussion and requires students to be semi independent with their work as they have to do most of it without the presence of a teacher. This class is good for those with good study habits who can pace themselves accordingly.

Summer Health: For those who cannot fit zero period in their schedule there is health available in the summer. Students sign up for these classes in the 2nd semester of the school year. During the summer there are two main options for health available. One option is the online version that is run on Canvas. The class is completely online and there are set due dates where you need to turn in your work by. The other option is similar to hybrid health, but during the summer. You show up to your assigned high school 2 times a week until the class is finished. If you do not show up you can be dropped from the class. The class allows you to work at your own pace, but you need to finish by the 6th week to receive the credit. However, you can finish the class before the 6th week if you work ahead.
