I took online Health last summer and it was one of the smartest decisions I’ve ever made. I have a full schedule with a zero period and multiple electives, so I was worried that I wouldn’t have time to complete my Health credit. Thankfully, a friend told me that Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) offers summer classes.

Summer classes are beneficial to students for multiple reasons.

First off, they help busy students complete the required A-G graduation credits without having to worry about fitting a class in a packed schedule. Students can also take classes out of interest or for fun, not just to get their credits. There’s a variety of classes that are offered, some of which aren’t offered during the school year, and taking them also allows for a productive and enriching summer.

Summer classes are also much shorter compared to a full school year. They are one to two months longs, and this usually means there is a smaller course load. This makes the course much more manageable, and there aren’t as many projects that students have to worry about or tests and quizzes to study for.

In addition, with only one or two summer classes students are able to focus more on learning and creating high-quality work because they more time for that class.

There are different options as to which type of summer class students want to take. They can take it online, on campus or at a college depending on what courses are available.

Students who want to take a summer class must talk to their guidance specialist or Marilyn Wong in the Administration Office to see what summer classes are available and how to sign up.

Unfortunately, summer classes fill up fast. Students should visit their guidance specialists early in the spring semester for information and begin the application process as soon as possible.

FVHS offers many different summer class programs. It’s a great idea for students to take advantage of the opportunities that they have and sign up for the classes that they need or want to take.
