FVHS’s Theatre Department will move the production of “Macbeth” to Ocean View High School (OVHS) with student teacher Jenny McClintock as the director of the play.

Theatre teacher Robert Zick, FVHS’s usual director, is the technical director for this show.

According to Zick, FVHS performed plays and musicals at OVHS around four to five years ago, and there are multiple reasons to bring the shows to OVHS this year. Performing at a different venue is an opportunity for the crew to learn new things about theatre. OVHS, which has a stage, also provides the theatre students with a larger audience. This allows the Theatre Department to bring the performance to a school that doesn’t have a theatre program.

“[McClintock] being a student teacher, [I] thought this would be a great chance for her to take on many of the roles a theatre teacher takes on,” said Zick. “I have to say that working with her has been a great experience. “

McClintock’s passion for theatre, Shakespeare and teaching have also been an incentive to cast her as director of “Macbeth”.

“Mr. Zick, my theater master teacher, has also been endlessly patient and supportive, not to mention incredibly generous to allow me to direct the fall production ‘Macbeth’,” said McClintock. “It’s unusual for a student teacher to have this kind of opportunity, and I am grateful to have his trust.”

To prepare for the play, McClintock spent the summer identifying the major themes of “Macbeth” to create a suitable production. She hopes to convey the tone of the play, which is barren, toxic and hopeless.

FVHS’s production of Macbeth will take place at the OVHS Theater from Nov. 14-16. Tickets can be purchased at the FVHS Theatre website, fvhstheatre.com. They are $7 for students and $12 for adults.

“We make our overall district community better,” said Zick regarding the FVHS Theatre Department. “The more people who learn that theatre is a part of the world in which we live, the better our world will be after high school.”
