In the final game of the season on Tuesday, the girls’ varsity soccer team were defeated by Newport Harbor High School with a score of 0-2. Despite giving their best effort, the barons’ offense fell short of their scoring opportunities.

The first half was marked by intense back-and-forth action. At first, the team drove the ball up the field, but further into the game, the ball was continually pushed back towards their goal. At the 21st minute and in the last 10 minutes, the Barons were awarded penalty kicks but did not score.

The second half of the game opened with rapid tempo as the barons attempted to gain a lead and strived for possession of the ball. At the 13th minute, Newport Harbor scored a second goal ahead of the Barons, who struggled to maintain defense. However, the team was close to scoring a few times.

In the 24th minute, Newport Harbor was given a penalty kick but failed to score. The Barons fought hard until the end, but were ultimately unable to overtake the Sailors.

“[The] game could have definitely been better just like the rest of our season. Unfortunately, the goals allowed were a fluke and easily preventable,” senior captain Samantha Escobar said. “Sadly, this season has come to an end. Everyone’s effort was put into it, but it happened to happen that we just couldn’t finish all of our chances, yet the other teams were able to capitalize on our mistakes. No matter what though, we remained as team, a unit, a family until the very last game”

The barons end with a final league record of 0-4-1.
