The badminton team makes a comeback

While badminton, which has been a club on campus since it’s dissolution, is making it’s return this season for the spring of 2020. Despite the sport winning many competitions for Fountain Valley during it’s time,  the sport has been gone since the early 90’s, due to CIF dropping it as a sport.

“Allison Smith started the badminton club with some students, and then I took it over, and there was a need, a lot of kids wanted a badminton team, a lot of the student population, so we just, David Guetirrez and myself decided to bring the badminton team back” said Woodbury in an interview

The team is divided into different teams such as singles men, singles womens, co-ed, and doubles, with the team members coming from all grades.

“Its a learning experience you know. I’ve coached wrestling, surf. Coach Guetirrez has coached football, weight training, and so forth, so this is a new experience for the both of us, but its going good, kids are great, they’re working hard, so we’re gonna go with it, see what we can do with in the league with nine teams, and hopefully win some matches and be up in that top half in the league” said Woodbury.

“I started playing badminton during the first year week of school. It has given me the opportunity to start a new sport. I recommend people join because it is good exercise and a fun thing to do with friends” said developmental team member Ben Dao.
