This afternoon, the Fountain Valley High School girls’ varsity tennis team experienced their second loss at home this season against the Corona del Mar High School (CdMHS) Sea Kings with a final score of 4-14.

It wasn’t a total loss for the Lady Barons, however, as they did improve from last year’s match in which they scored 1-18 against the Division 1 team. Despite the setback, the team had played with strong efforts. Win or lose, the Barons definitely put up a tough fight in the difficult battle.

“Going into today’s match, I knew that the CdM team was a really strong team so I knew that I had to play my best and give it my all every point,” Singles No. 3 senior Tiffany Hoang said. “Overall, I think that today was a good learning experience for our team and [it] will definitely help us prepare for our league matches coming up after spring break.

Hoang was able to secure one of two total wins for the singles team in her first set with a score of 6-4. Singles No. 1 junior Nghi Trinh earned the singles team’s second win with a score of 6-2 in her second set.

For doubles, senior Kaylee Tran and her partner, junior Emily Tran, won their last set with a score of 6-4. Likewise with Doubles No. 2 as seniors Christy Chau and Paige Ngo obtained a win of 6-2 in the third round.

Assistant Coach Vivek Savsani shares his concluding remarks on today’s matches.

“I think our team did well today [but] they could’ve done better for sure. But then again, they’re playing a top ten team in all of California with tournament players so it’s tough to win against them,” Savsani said. “The team’s progress has definitely improved a lot this year and this is only our second loss. But we do have a team that’s ready to play and put everything they’ve got out there so they’re doing very well this season.”
