The Lady Barons softball team defeated Corona del Mar’s Sea Kings with an overwhelming victory of 18-0 on Thursday.

Senior CJ Garcia secured her team with the first lead of the game when she hit the ball out to the left-field, allowing her teammates on first and second base to make runs in the first inning while securing the third base. This made the score 2-0.

Junior Brooke Bonny also scored her team multiple runs when she hit a ground ball left and allowed herself and her teammates senior Brooke Pace and sophomore Lexia Martinez three more runs, making the score 6-0 in the first inning.

Corona del Mar’s pitcher made attempts to strike out the Barons with some hard pitches, but these backfired when she allowed the Barons many walks to first after the balls were pitched either out of the strike zone or at the hitters in the second inning.

The Barons also found opportunities to steal bases with Bonny stealing third and senior Kiara Palomino also stealing third later on in the second inning.

“We did what we were supposed to do. We hit the ball hard on the ground and scored the runs,” Palomino said.

Freshman Jenna Bixler racked up the Barons two more runs in the second inning when she hit a home run, allowing another teammate to also run to home, making the score 18-0.

“I think I did pretty well. We did what we needed to do,” Bixler said.

Corona del Mar’s pitcher wasn’t able to go on in the third inning due to an arm injury sustained after pitching in the first two innings.

The Barons’ coaches decided to put in one of their pitchers, freshman Sam Estra, to help the Sea Kings in the third and final inning of the game.

The game was basically already done at this point, but the Barons and Sea Kings continued to play without the scoreboard until the coaches of each team decided to end the game.
