Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) boys’ varsity golf went head-to-head against the Estancia High School (EHS) Eagles on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Mile Square Park in a tough matchup where the Barons prevailed.

“We beat Estancia 216-238,” head coach Carter Keyser said.

The Barons made it to Mile Square Park at 2:30 p.m., planning to warm up 30 minutes before the game started. After their warm-up, the Barons introduced themselves and their balls to their opponents, so their balls would not get mixed up. With the greetings finished, the Barons and Eagles golfers prepared to face off in the game, splitting off into pairs and having a golfer from each pair record the strokes.

The final individual scores raked:

  1. Senior captain Anthony Duong: 42 strokes
  2. Junior Reid Bouse: 44 strokes
  3. Senior Daniel Oakes: 48 strokes
  4. Freshman Evan Phi: 42 strokes
  5. Senior KJ Veres: 44 strokes
  6. Senior Timothy Pham: 44 strokes
  7. Junior Tyler Luu: 48 strokes
  8. Freshman Ethan Lam: 48 strokes

Standout players included Duong and Phi, who had the lowest strokes on the team.

“Our low scores were Anthony Duong and Evan Phi, who each shot a 42,” Keyser said. “I was really impressed how they handled the tough weather conditions.”

Overall, coming out with a victory, the Baron golfers were happy.

“I hoped we would play well and win, which we did,” Keyser said. “I was very pleased with our performance.”
