The Super Baron card is a form of student identification at Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) that provides the holder with upgrades from a standard card with an upfront extra cost. These upgrades include pricing discounts for dances and other events, free entry into home football games and more. The price seems intimidating at first; however, Super Baron’s benefits are worth the money.

“The Super Baron card was on sale for $130. This includes the yearbook with a [value of $110] as an early bird price,” Hayato Yuuki, the assistant principal of activities and athletics, said. That leaves $20 to cover any other benefits given.

Discounts on dances and football games are further advantages of purchasing a Super Baron card. The school’s most recent Homecoming sold general ID tickets beginning at $70 with a $15 increase in price each day of the week. However, for those with the Super Baron or Associated Student Body (ASB) ID, tickets began at $65 with a $15 increase each day of the week. This ended the cost of each ticket with general ID at $115 and with Super Baron or ASB ID at $110. A $5 difference may not be significant, but these price distinctions will add up the more events a student attends.

It’s noted that the ASB ID also gives similar benefits as the Super Baron ID and is only priced at $65. However, this card does not include the yearbook within its purchase.

Fortunately, students aren’t the only ones profiting from the Super Baron or ASB card; the school financially
benefits as well.

The school’s profit from the cards each year “varies based on how many cards are sold and the cost of the items in the Super Baron or ASB card kit … About half the student body purchases a [Super Baron or ASB] card each year,” according to Yuuki.

The proceeds from the cards goes directly back to the students, another reason these cards are incredibly worth the money.

“The proceeds from the cards make it possible for ASB to subsidize activities such as athletics, rallies, dances, plays, student government, clubs, commissions and graduation. These activities depend partly or entirely on the student funds raised through card sales. Each dollar [a student] invests is returned directly to the students,” Yuuki said.

Furthermore, despite inflation, FVHS has only increased the Super Baron card by $10, making it the cheapest student activity card in the Huntington Beach Union High School District, a fact FVHS is proud of. All things considered, the Super Baron’s discounts and the support it gives to the student body make it well worth its price.
