St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner; we all know what that means! Leprechauns! They invade your homes, they eat your food, they play on your Xbox, they crawl inside your body and lay eggs so that next year they have a man on the inside to let them know where all your gold is.

Just kidding.

While leprechauns might not be the evil creatures that I just described, they can be mischievous. They are the male counterpart of fairies and are almost always said to be protecting a pot of gold.

If you’ve ever wondered what’s at the end of the rainbow, the secret’s out people! It’s a little leprechaun fiercely protecting his pot of gold.

These little fairies have been known to look like little shoe-makers, with green outfits and beards. Like a small, green pilgrim. They have the top hats and everything. As the shoemakers of the fairy world, they earn big bucks and decide to hide their gold in their little pot.

Now, this may seem like an issue to you, but I still need to get to the worst part. I mentioned earlier that leprechauns are known for their trickery and mischievous attitudes. If left alone, these tiny creatures do not harm.

It’s when they get caught by a human that you need to watch your back.

Playing on human emotions like greed, leprechauns can outsmart people and escape traps. However, If you use this technique, you will undoubtedly be able to catch a leprechaun this St. Patrick’s Day.

First, you need to build a leprechaun trap. Using a small box, cut a hole in the top the size of your fist and set it on the floor. Use a small piece of felt to cover the top of the box, like a trapdoor spider does to catch its prey. Under the box, spread out some honey so that when the Leprechaun falls through your trap door, he will get stuck.

Now, to attract your leprechaun prisoner in the first place, you need to appeal to what he likes. Leprechauns like gold, shamrocks, rainbows and the color green. So in preparation, you might want to go into an open field and find a couple of four-leafed clovers to leave a trail for your leprechaun.

To decorate your box, make it as colorful as the pride section of a Target in June. Leprechauns love rainbows, so use as many bright colors as possible.

Once you catch your leprechaun, you need to invoke the sacred leprechaun code, that he will honor and abide by. Legally he has to do so. If successfully caught, your leprechaun will grant you three wishes. In my opinion, your first wish should be to ask for more wishes, but what do I know?

Once you are done asking your wishes, make sure to give your leprechaun a gift for their time, they like gold.
