Friday night lights are here again this fall. Rebounding from a tough 3-6-1 season last year, the boys in blue are mighty as ever.

“Last year… We were young and inexperienced which hurt us in a couple of games.  This year we are more experienced and looking forward to a better season,” said Sean Myers (’12)

The Barons’ competition in 2011 will not be easy by any means. They will be facing no less than 6 teams ranked in the top 15 of Orange County, including  Los Alamitos ranking in at 6, San Clemente at 7, and of course, Edison at 9.

However the Barons will be led by a strong and experienced group of impact players. They consist of corner/wide receiver Sean Myers, linebacker Philip Choi (’12), quarterback Kai Fernandez (’12), as well as J.D. Hinnant (’13), Wyatt Christensen, and Mark Sonetti who unfortunately is out this year. This year the boys are hoping for strong support all season long.

Boys Water Polo

Boys water polo looks to make a splash this year on Fall Sports, led by their 5 seniors and captain, Nick Frens (’12). This year the roster for the Varsity team is very tight as only 9 players make the entire team leaving only 2 subs.

To make matters even tougher on the boys, the young star sophomore, Kyle Breznau, is going to be out for potentially a good portion of the season. Bringing in Frens to fill the gap and play set for the Barons while taking the burden of offense for the team. Joe Romo (’12) will be securing the net for the barons as the official goalkeeper for the season.

So far in pre-season the boys have posted a 1-3-0 against some tough competition. They all look forward to competing in the aggressive Sunset League in October and to put all their tough summer training into the water.

Boys Cross Country

Boys cross country is going to stride it out this year with some exciting meets ahead as well as a very strong group of runners. The enormous barons cross country team combined of all kinds of talents, is headed by seniors Jay Bonthius (’12) and Jordan Millington (’12) as well as under classman Max Chern (’13).

The Barons will have their normal league schedule ahead of them along with  the Central Park Pre-lims and the league Final. In both of these meets all Baron runners participate. However the elite runners have potential for extra competition including a Stanford invitational at the end of the month. Also, depending on performance in league, some runners may be invited to the OC champions’ meet. Alongside is the infamous endurance track, Mount Sac, which test all the might these Barons have.

Training for long hours, these Barons speed isn’t just for choice runners, cross country is always open to new athletes who want to give it a try.

Good luck to all the mighty boys’ teams this fall season!
