Here are your morning announcements for Tuesday, January 31st :    

Congratulations to the wrestling team for sweeping Newport Harbor on Thursday. Each level won their dual leaving the Freshman and JV still undefeated. Varsity, who is ranked in the top 10 in Orange County won their dual with a score of 62-15. They are currently in the running for a co-league title! Next week’s match will be held on Wednesday at home against Huntington Beach and will be Fountain Valley’s senior night. Come out and support your Barons!

Congratulations to the dance team for an amazing job at the West Covina competition this weekend!!  Officers placed 1st, lyrical placed  3rd, and Hip Hop team A placed 1st!!  The Jazz team placed 1st and received an award for top choreography and 1st runner up for the sweepstakes. The soloist also did very well- Becky Santillanes got 1st, Nicole Hiroi, Alyssa Loeffelman, Haley Ritchardz and Dezarrae Jackson placed 2nd!  An amazing start to the competition season!!

The District Wide Talent Show is this Thursday, February 2nd at the Huntington Beach Auditorium.  Tickets are on sale at the Financial Office for $10.00.  Fountain Valley has nine acts this year including our very own Mr. Fraser.  Come support your Barons!

Show your love with a Valentine’s gram in the Baron Banner. They’re just $1 from anyone in Baron Banner or Room 306! Grams are due February 3rd.

Do you want to see your crush blush?  Send them a flower and a song.  Starting on January 31st, you can buy a Valentine Gram from any concert Choir member for $3.00.  They will stop selling on February 10th and will be given out on Valentine’s Day!  Don’t miss out on this chance!

ASB is still taking sign-ups for the Ping Pong Tournament.  Sign up at lunch in front of the Activities Office during lunch, cost is $2.00

The Fountain Valley Theatre Department kicks off the new semester with a comedy about love on a winter night in Maine.  The play is just in time for Valentine’s Day.  Come see Almost, Maine, playing in the theatre room 309 Wednesday through Saturday with shows at 3:00 on Wednesday and Thursday and at 3:00 and 7:00 on Friday and Saturday.  Tickets are $5.00 for students and can be purchased outside of room 309 at lunch or after school.  See you there.

The Theatre Department will hold auditions for the spring musical “The Drowsy Chaperone.”  Auditions will be held in the Faculty Lounge on February 7th and 8th at 3:00.  We need actors, singers, dancers, and anyone interested in the behind the scenes work for this award winning production.  Please see Mr. Zick, in room 135 for more information.

Congratulations to Adrien Ha who won 2nd place in the Mock Trial Journalism competition! Adrien will be honored along with his 5 teammates at the Orange County Constitutional Rights Foundation Awards Luncheon in February for his journalistic excellence!
Congratulations to the Boys soccer program for beating Newport Harbor at all levels. The Varsity took over first place in the Sunset league with an overtime goal by Wade Sias. JV won 2-1 to remain in first place and F/S won 3-2. Great job Barons. Good luck this Friday at home against the Oilers.

Congratulations to all levels of Boys Basketball for their sweep over Newport Harbor.  Varsity won 68 to 50.  Boys Basketball would like to give a Big Thanks to all the students who Packed the Gym!

Congratulations to the Lady Barons Varsity basketball team for another league win against Newport Harbor last night 49 to 33.  Great performances by Jasmine Matar with 15 points and 5 steals and Lora Bender with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Barons are currently in third place in league.  Keep it up girls!

Congratulations to the Boys’ Varsity soccer team for beating Los Al 3-0. The Barons were led by Joseph Soliman’s two goals and Ethan Morrow’s solid defense. The Baron’s are currently in second place with a 4-1 record. Good luck today against Newport.

Congratulations to the FVHS Hockey Team! They held off Newport Harbor by tying 3-3. Goals were scored by Josh Valadez, Joey Yonkers, and Justin Topping.  Brenden Crawford put up amazing defense as goalie taking the last shot of the night to the mask. Congrats on your undefeated season so far and good luck next week!

Coastline Community College is offering a mandatory orientation meeting on the FVHS campus for students registered to take Music C100 in Spring 2012.  Students who are taking a Coastline class for the FIRST TIME are REQUIRED to attend an orientation meeting prior to the first day of class.  The orientation meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 18 at lunch time in Room 302.  Please arrive at the beginning of lunch.  See Ms. Wong if you have questions.

Great win for the Lady Barons basketball team last night against marina high school, 45 to 27.  Wonderful performance by everyone on the team, especially form Lora bender with 21 points and 22 rebounds and Jasmine Matar with 11 points and 9 rebounds.  Nice job ladies!

Congratulations to the boys varsity soccer team for winning both their games in league last week. Ethan Morrow scored two goals to lift the Barons over Huntington 3-2 in overtime. The JV team led by Mr. Lloyd also won both their games to take an early lead in the Sunset league. Come out and support the teams this Wednesday when they play at home against Edison. Junior Parent/PSAT Results Night is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 10th at 6:30pm in the Student Cafeteria. We will cover the college admissions process, A-G courses, SAT Testing and of course hand out the PSAT Results for all students who took the test last Oct.

FV is currently ranked 7th in Orange County and will be travelling to Godinez High school this weekend for a 64-man bracketed tournament. Five Counties is next week..Go Barons!

Congratulations to Melody Bui, Kent Nguyen, Austin Jenkins, and Christine Tran of the FVHS Mock Trial Team! These students will be recognized for their outstanding performances as bailiff, attorney, witness, and top fundraiser. Additionally, Heng-Yi Liu placed 1st in the courtroom artistic competition. These students will be honored for their excellence at the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County Mock Trial banquet in February. Congratulations!

Junior Parent/PSAT Results Night is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 10th. We will meet at 6:30pm in the Student Cafeteria. We will cover the college admissions process, A-G courses, SAT Testing and of course hand out the PSAT Results for all students who took the test last Oct. Revolution Prep will be doing a full interpretation of the test results.  Cal St Long Beach will also be informing us of the Early Assessment Program in case students need this info. We hope you can join us for this event.

Seniors: It is time for you to start the Financial Aid process. Make sure you have started the FAFSA and you are continuing to look for scholarships. The best scholarship search website is Fastweb.com. Create your profile and start the scholarship search process. You should also be checking the FVHS website under College and Career Planning. This is where Mrs. Wakeman lists all local scholarships. (end 1/30/2012)
Seniors: It is time for our Financial Aid Night! If you need any help filling out the FAFSA, or don’t know about scholarships, grants, loans and work study you should attend our event. Find out all about Financial Aid on Thursday, Jan. 12th at 6:30pm in the Library/Media Center. We will be covering the FAFSA line by line to help you through this process. Mr. Jack Millis, the Director of Financial Aid at Chapman University will be hosting this event.

Any student interested in attending the Virginia Tech Military Institute should come to the Career Center on Monday, Jan. 9th during lunch. We will have former student Matthew Lee talk about admissions requirements, the regimen and life in Virginia. (end 1/9/12)

Seniors, now that you have applied to college make sure that you have released all of your SAT and ACT scores to the colleges you applied to. Remember that an application is not complete until you release your test scores! (end 1/20/12)

Hey Barons, Got Talent?  Then the Huntington Beach Union High School District – District Wide Talent show is for you!  It’s open to all students and teachers from all campuses of the district.  Applications will be available tomorrow in the Activities Office and due January 11th at 1:00pm.  The talent show will be held February 2nd at 6:00pm in the HBUHSD Auditorium.

Game of the Week is Girls Basketball vs. Huntington Beach tomorrow night at 7:00pm.  Come to the gym and support your girls basketball team.
