The stress of APs means that there is probably no movie watching throughout the year. However, after May 18, or even sooner, those APs will be over. Here is a list of movies coming out after AP testing that appear to be great ways to celebrate the end of your movie drought.

Dark Shadows (starring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer (an FVHS alumni), Helena Bonham Carter, and Chloe Grace Moretz from Hugo) (5/11) – A comedy vampire story, Dark Shadows immediately sets itself apart from other vampire movies of its day with the inclusion of witty humor and a 70s retro theme. While it isn’t an outright comedy, the seriousness is offset by a comical undertone. If that isn’t enough to encourage you to watch, the big actors promise superb acting and it’s directed by Tim Burton. The characters seem like they will end up being strong, sympathizable characters.

The Dictator (starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, and Anna Faris) (5/18) The Dictator looks like it will be a hilarious satire with at least somewhat intelligent humor. The movie has already become popular even though it’s not out yet and doesn’t look to be a disappointment.

Battleship (starring Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, and Liam Neeson) (5/18) – Despite its rather unextraordinary trailer, Battleship guarantees stunning visual effects, if not a listless plotline. The movie seems to tread in the philosophy that special effects will make the movie over the plotline, but it should be an interesting action film.

Men in Black 3 (starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin) (5/25) – While it is also a futuristic action movie like Battleship, Men in Black 3 promises to be much more entertaining with its incorporation of mild humor. This film, like the other MIB movies, stars Will Smith. Even if the action won’t be as dazzling as Battleship, it looks to be more entertaining, with a more engaging plot and the inclusion of humor.

Snow White and the Huntsman (starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron) (6/1) Snow White and the Huntsman definitely has a darker edge to it than the other Snow White remake that came out this year, Mirror Mirror. The film features action, which promises to adds a dynamic twist to the original Snow White.  Fashion-lovers will not be disappointed by the dresses, both the Queen and Snow White, wear throughout the movie. This film looks to be fun and engaging, with its great cast, costumes, and personal touch to the original fairy tale.

Hick (starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Blake Lively) (5/11) – Although IMDb gave it a rating of 5/10, the story seems interesting, at least in theory. Hick tells the story of a girl from Nebraska who encounters a variety of characters and circumstances while traveling to Vegas on her own.
