Special Needs Prom

On Saturday night, in a brightly lit, spacious room of a local senior center, more than twenty students from all grade levels at FVHS gathered to volunteer at a Special Needs Prom.

Themed “Black and White Ball,” the room was covered in decorations, and each table was adorned with penguin erasers, black and white licorice, and golden sunflowers.

After two hours of preparation, guests began to arrive. The event lasted about two hours, featuring a DJ, activity tables, refreshments, and a photo booth. Students from programs at Edison, Westminster, and Fountain Valley all participated in the event, with a total attendance of approximately 30 students.

Junior Toan Nguyen says that attending the event was an “amazing experience and great memory.” Other volunteers included Zeenub Aminy (’12), Brittany Goldberg (’12), Jacqueline Choy (’12), Jennifer Lightbody (’14), Kyra Ingertson (’12), Christine Le (’12), Liz Pham (’13), Meredith Lightbody (’14), Lindsay Danley (’14), Elise Dang (’14), Mimi Chen (’14), Annie Chao (’14), Demi Dang (’14), Samar Saad (’14), Ethelynn Hong (’14), Justine Bui (’14), Olivia Reis (’14), Rachel Phillips (’14), and Rebecca Turner (’14).

The event was a great success and an eye-opening experience for all who attended and participated.

  1. What a great idea! Love the execution 🙂 Too bad I didn’t know about it, or else I would have volunteered, also 🙁
