Harvest Festival celebrates fall season

FVHS kicked off Thanksgiving break with its first annual Harvest Festival last Friday.

The Festival was organized as a replacement for the Halloween Club Carnival, which did not take place this year.

“The reason we had the Harvest Fest instead of Club Carnival was due to the fact that choir wasn’t doing the Haunted Maze this year,” said ASB member Emily Tran (’13), “because Club Carnival is centered around the Haunted Maze.”

Students, parents, and community members came to enjoy an assortment of foods from Greek gyro sandwiches to omurice, a Japanese-style omelet. Clubs also provided games for entertainment such as the ring toss by Make-a-Wish and the balloon-dart game by NHS.

As the only club that had neither, Pencils of Promise took advantage of this fundraising opportunity by selling items from their Threads of Promise clothing line.

A few  clubs found that sales were lower than expected, “I thought it was a success for bigger clubs but I believe that other clubs did not benefit as well as they did during the Halloween Festival,” Nick Dinh (’14) said.

“It was difficult selling food to people who were either not hungry, already had food, or had a small amount of money,” noted Nick Man (’14).

On the other hand, many believed it to be an improvement from last year’s Halloween Club Carnival.

“I thought this year’s Harvest Festival was a lot better than the Halloween Carnival. It was better planned, and the booths were all placed in a more logical way,” Benjamin Dinh (’14) remarked.

“It was better than I expected and the atmosphere was fun,” said Gina Luu (’14).

    1. The Culture Fair and the Harvest Festival are two different things with several similar goals. Goals like to bring our communities together, help clubs raise money, and to EAT! We appreciate your opinion on the Harvest Festival though, we will try to find ways to make it even more enjoyable for next year, so come back!

    2. Well, we’re still having the cultural festival. I’m pretty sure. They’re just making up for the lost Halloween Club Carnival, you know?

  1. I really prefer the Halloween Carnival instead of the Harvest Festival. A lot of clubs did not profit, or hardly profited from the Harvest Festival. Also, there was a lack of activities for people who DID come. The only thing they had was line dancing and that wasn’t really fun. But good job ASB for planning this.

    1. Thank you for you input. We will take it into consideration for next year as well. Last year, the Halloween Carnival fell on the 28th, the Friday before Halloween. So, the timing worked out alright and Choir still conducted their Haunted Maze. This year, we were unable to squeeze in the carnival around the same time due to the Bell Game on Oct 26th. The football game dates are out of our control, but we did what we could. Thank you and we will try to improve more for next year!
