Successful Wins for Boys Soccer

The boys varsity soccer team dominated in their fourth game of preseason on Friday against Segerstrom scoring 4-1. Joseph Soloman (’13) scored two goals, while Marcello Ratinoff (’13), and Gordi Grigus (’13) each scored one goal in the game.

After the game, Gordi said, “It’s not about how you start, but how you finish” and “I was just in the right place at the right time.”

The Barons begin their season strongly after participating in the 26th annual Marina Holiday Classic boys’ soccer tournament over the December 27 weekend. Unfortunately, the Barons, who were attempting to reach the tournament final for the second straight year, were cut short when they lost 2-0 against St. John Bosco. Fountain Valley went on to defeat Ocean View on penalty kicks (4-3) to win the third-place game Saturday. The Barons went 3-1-1 at the tournament.

On January 2nd, the team started their New Year and league off right with a win against Marina 2-1.  The goals were made by Oscar Fernandez (’13) and Kenji Louer (’14).

In their second league game on January 4th, the boys took home another victory versus Huntington Beach with a score of 4-1. Two goals were scored by Oscar Fernandez (’13), one by Brett Nomura (’14), and one from Joseph Soloman (’13).

Coach Smith told his team at the end of their second league game, “We made an outstanding start so we have to pull this off all the way through to make it to CIFs and win.”

The boys will be looking forward to a tough season, with their next league game at Newport Harbor on Wednesday, January 9th.
