Last Wednesday was a celebration for senior athletes that received scholarships to colleges. The athletes who were chosen to receive scholarships gathered in the gym to sign their contracts to play for their sport at the college of their choice.

“I felt like one of the luckiest kids alive,” said football player J.D. Hinnant about the celebration. “Not many schools do that, and all the support the people gave us was just amazing!”

Mr. Herzfeld even spoke for these athletes, reading the stories of their sports careers and wishing for accomplishments yet to come. A slideshows of pictures of these athletes in action throughout their seasons during their high school career also played.

Most underclassman athletes packed the gym to watch inspirational graduating athletes sign into a sport for college.

“I think [the celebration] could help pump [the underclassmen] up to work harder, so that one day they’ll be sitting at that table,” said Hinnant.

“I think that it was a really great experience and I hope to be there one day also,” Jackie Garrett (‘15) stated.

The athletes for these college scholarships were:

Madi Perez going to Washington State for softball.
Emily Brucelas going UCSB for softball.
Andre Vu to UCR for golf.
Sean Finley to South Dakota for football.
J.D. Hinnant to Berkeley for football.
Wyatt Christensen to Montana State for football.
Dakota Griggs to UCSB for soccer.
Madison Gomez to Long Island University for soccer.
Jamie Dang to UCSB for swim.
