Students undergo schedule changes

As second semester begins, another round of class schedule changes is expected to take place at FVHS. Students can expect guidance specialists to change their schedules without notice due to class size leveling.

“I got rid of my zero period and added a fifth,” said Vonnie Nguyen (’13). “I went to my counselor and my schedule didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to be because I couldn’t get into my ROP class.”

With changes that may or may not please students come lines to the guidance offices. Students are already waiting in stretched lines from early in the morning to after school. Frustration and impatience are frequent occurrences at this time of the year.

“I don’t like how we have to wait in long lines; it’s kind of a waste of time,” said Lana Shehadeh (’16).

Although they can request to have their schedule changed, guidance specialists can only accommodate so many requests and won’t be able to grant many students’ wishes.

However, some were able to transfer in or switch out of certain classes to be with their friends or simply take an easier subject. Sometimes, changing one class can unexpectedly lead to almost an entire schedule change, which is what some students have had to go through.

Eileen Tran (13’) said, “I dropped my ROP class so I could take a different one second semester, but that also resulted in me transferring to different classes.”

This is only a small portion of what students have to go through at the beginning of the semester, whether it suits them or not. Barons are going to have to deal with changes as each new semester starts.
