Tennis courts repaved, new rules implemented

The tennis courts at Fountain Valley High School were recently repaved for the boys tennis season.

The decision to resurface and repave was made when a call from the school district came in saying that had an allotted amount of money that could go towards the tennis courts.

Activities Director Mr. Fraser said, “[The tennis courts] were pretty much crumbling. Every court had a crack and the surface was turning into sand.”

Hershel Patel, coach of the tennis team, said, “We used to have dents, crack, and the pavement was uneven too. Now the courts have a new texture and the surface is even. The holes and patches are fixed.”

He stated that the tennis balls bounce better on the new courts. When running, the courts feel softer, and every surface is now the same height, color and texture.

Patel implemented new rules in order to maintain the courts. They are no longer open the public, and are locked up except for when the students are using them. Also, students are not allowed to walk on the tennis courts if they are not wearing the appropriate shoes.

Fraser plans to fix other sports equipment at the school, such as the pool, which he stated “needs some definite attention, but there is not enough money for it.”

Money is the biggest obstacle at the moment. The school is still figuring out ways to raise funds in order to maintain other sports’ equipment.
