Varsity football team squared off against Dana Hills High School and won in a close game 24-21 Friday night.

After a slow first quarter in which no points were scored by either team, things picked up in the second with two Baron touchdowns, leading FVHS into halftime with a 14-0 lead against the Dolphins. Travis Hood (‘14) scored both touchdowns, with kicking assists from Jonah Mack (‘14).

In the third quarter, both teams scored a touchdown, bringing the score to 21-7, a strong lead for the Barons. Isaiah Davis (‘14) scored the touchdown on a kickoff return, with an assist from Mack.

At the start of the last quarter, the Barons felt confident about a pending win. However, Dana Hills quickly recovered with two touchdowns in quick succession, three minutes apart halfway through the quarter, tying the score at 21.

With only nineteen seconds left in the game, Mack kicked a field goal earning the Barons the three points they needed to secure a victory over the dolphins.

ASB President Tricia Vuong (’14) was impressed with the student attendance at the first came of the season, as spirited Barons filed in and filled more than two sections.

“We always want to come out and support our Barons,” said Vuong. “The Loud Crowd supports the team, win or lose, home or away, and we want them to feel supported.”

The Barons next home game will be this Friday, Sep. 13, as they face off against Trabuco Hills.
