On Tuesday, Oct. 8, girls varsity volleyball fought hard in their second League game of the season, but all three teams lost to the Oilers by the end of the night.

The frosh-soph and JV teams both lost 0-2, while Varsity lost 0-3, scoring 9-25, 23-25, and 3-25, in each respective game.

Although Ari Jacobsen (’15) hustled to the ball to set Shayna Johnson (’14) up for several good assists, the varsity team was overpowered by strong kills from the Huntington Beach Oilers. Middle blocker Valerie Holler (’15) made several kills for the Barons as well during the second set, and our volleyball team was able to block many hits from HB.

“I thought that we could have beat them and totally should have. We could have done much better if we just kept our energy up from the second game,” said Varsity player Noelle Hillman (’15).

Unlike previous games, however, the Lady Barons were supported by a loud mob of blue cheering in the stands. Head coach Adam Cutrell had mandated that the volleyball boys join the lady Barons in support of the Varsity girls at every home game.

The lady Barons will be playing their next league away game at Newport Harbor on Thursday, Oct. 10.
