Last Wednesday, students, staff, and family members gathered to witness Brock Lundquist, Daniel Patzlaff, Madison Weathers, Kelli Tatum, and Katelyn Farrow sign their own letters of intent to the school of their choice.

The National Letter of Intent is a voluntary program that joins prospective students and athletic institutions. By signing a Letter of Intent, the student is bound to that school and program for 1 athletic year. Student athletes who sign the letter of intent are assured an academic scholarship for at least one year.  The National Letter of Intent is signed multiple times a year, during fall sports season, winter sports season, and spring sports season.

The ceremony began with a few words from sports coordinator Steve Eggert introducing the athletes and their tremendous efforts in their sports.  Head baseball coach Deric Yanagisawa commended Brock Lundquist and Daniel Patzlaff for their achievements in varsity baseball and softball during their high school careers.

Head swimming coach Mike Nichols applauded Kelly Farrow on her exceptional work for the swim team.  Then, Madison Weathers’ mother gave a speech highlighting her daughter’s dedication to softball. Girls softball players Victoria Ellard and Randi Fehser congratulated their teammate Kelli Tatum on her performance in over the years.

These Barons look forward to playing their sports at college. “I decided to sign with Cal Lutheran because they have a special education program and a great swim program, too,” said Farrow. “I’m so ready to start this next chapter in my life and see where it takes me.”
