Barons joined ASB in the gym during lunch to watch the ping pong tournament starting Dec. 2.

A few days prior to the ping pong tournament, ASB set up a table in front of the Activities office for Barons who were interested in joining. To participate, students had to join was sign up in a team of one or two people and pay a $5 fee.

The rules of the game were simple. During a serve, the ball must bounce once on the server’s side and over the net. Then, the opponent hits the ball back. The ball must also bounce once on his or her side before going over the net. The two players will then rally until one of the players makes a mistake. To win, a player must gain 11 points. But if the score is 11-10, the player must gain another point to win because he or she must win by 2 points.

Many students enjoyed the ping pong tournament because it allowed them to enjoy a sport they loved and bring out their competitive side.

“I’ve always loved ping pong but never had a chance to play and this tournament gave me the opportunity to do what I love and have fun with my friends at the same time,” said Oscar Quito (’14). “I love the fact that I can just face someone one [on] one, not having to depend on anything but how much my skill matches up to my opponents. In other words I love ping pong because it’s a challenge and a test of skill.”

Students were able to gain a great experience from tournament and with this tournament coming to an end, many of the players are looking forward to join the tournament again next year.

“Now that I’ve felt what it’s like playing in the tournament I definitely plan on joining in future competitions,” said Danny Ho (’16).

“The ping pong tournament was a really great experience. It was an event for me to have fun and share some funny moments with people,” said Sidney Ho (’16).
