Every year, FVHS Orchestra hosts a winter concert  that gives students and parents an opportunity to listen to  the orchestra. It also prepares the ensemble for their performance at Disney the day after.

The concert is usually hosted during the middle of December in the FVRR band room. This year, the concert took place in the school cafeteria last Wednesday. “I had a really good experience with this concert since it was my first performance at high school,” said Dacey Nguyen (’17).

The orchestra performed various pieces from Disney, such as “Fantasia 2000,” “Beauty and the Beast,” The orchestra also performed their feature piece, “Orion and the Scorpion,” composed by  Soon Hee Newbold.

Responses from the audience were positive. Many people enjoyed listening to the Disney pieces that the orchestra played.

With a successful concert came a bittersweet feeling to many senior members of the orchestra.  “It was such an amazing last winter concert. I could really feel the excitement and energy as we played through our pieces. I was so focused on making this the best concert yet,” Linh Phan (’14) stated.

The orchestra has three main performances besides the winter concert and Disney performance. They will be playing for their yearly festival on March 28 and April 4, where their performance is judged, and at FVRR’s Spring Concert during May. These three performances will be directed under Mark Irons, since director Gary Wampler will retire from the FVRR by second semester.
