Lilian Nguyen (‘15) hosted Fountain Valley Royal Regiment’s Holiday Huddle, an event set up to raise money for the FVHS music program, on Dec. 20.

Nguyen’s idea for the event was inspired by Westminster High School’s open mic event. However, Holiday Huddle was holiday-themed.

As long as their segments were related to the holiday season, students were allowed to sign up for time slots to perform in the Holiday Huddle. From ensembles like “Operation Jazz” and “Dat Brass,” to duets and solos, students showcased their various musical abilities at the event.

“I thought that the concert overall turned out very well… It was such an enjoyable thing, I could barely wait for the next one!,” said Michael Tran (‘15), who participated in a piano and flute duet with Kevin Takeda (‘14).

Aside from musical performances, the FVHS Improv team also played a prominent role at the event by conducting the opening, closing, and intermission with audience-interactive games and impromptu jokes.

Domenic DeSantis (‘15), co-captain of the improv team, said, “Seeing people’s faces light up during the Holiday Huddle because of our performance gave me a feeling like no other.”

After all of the performances, a raffle was also held with the tickets audience members purchased. All profits from the event were sent to the FVRR.

“I thought the Holiday Huddle was a great way to raise money as well as display some great talents,” said DeSantis. “This was something fun that everyone can enjoy and I think it’s something that the FVRR should do again.”
