Wrestling dominates Huntington Beach in first duel

FVHS wrestling faced off Huntington Beach in the first dual of the season with a team score of 70-6 last Thursday.

“We did well, a few weight not as [well] as other, but as a whole [we] did well,” said captain Andrew Morgan (’15).

The Barons were able to receive three byes and seven pins.Morgan and Blake Vasquez (’16) were able to win team points by winning by technical fall. The Barons fought hard and only gave up six points by score and takedown in first overtime. Wrestlers who won their matches by pin include Lolo Gomez (’17), Carson Aryes (’17), Kyle Knocks (’15), David Galdamez (’15), Isaiah Prado (’16), Stone Escobedo (’15, and Ben Madrid (’15).

“Some of the kids first match as today…we need to work on conditioning and technique”, said head coach Brad Woodbury. “[We’re] shooting for league title and CIF title and getting after it.”

The next home duel will be Feb. 4 against Marina and the Five Counties Tournament will be held next week against individual competitors and schools from across the country.
