Girls softball obliterates Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach was no match for the Lady Barons since the beginning of the game. The Barons took the lead with a score of 1-0 in the 1st inning, scored by Megan Craft (‘16) with a run. During the 2nd inning, the Lady Barons kept going on strong and continued the lead with a score of 3-0, scored by Anna Marin (‘14), and Liana Castro (‘16).

By the third inning, the score was at 14-0. While many players scored vital runs, the highlight of the game was a grand slam hit by Captain Kelli Tatum (‘14). The defense held strong for the rest of the game, and finally, in the 5th inning, Laguna Beach was forced to yield to the “Mercy Rule,” which calls for an early end when one team has a very large and presumably insurmountable lead over the other team.

Key offensive players include Taylor Golden (‘17), who led the Barons with the most hits of the game, with three successful hits to first base, and Captain Kelli Tatum (‘14), with a hit to first base, and the unforgettable grand slam which provided the team’s final score.

The key defensive player was Madison Weathers (‘14), the team’s pitcher, who had multiple strong pitches in every inning up to fourth, with seven strikeouts total, plus getting a runner out with a quick catch, and throw to first base.

“The outcome of the game was great. Our team played extremely well and dominated Laguna Beach,” said Tori Ellard (’14). “Hopefully we can bring that intensity to League.”
