Football, Through the Eyes of a Camera

Written by: Alyssa Weinberger

I can remember the first game I ever filmed for BBN. It was just supposed to be a one time thing. Mr. Ziebarth had sent out a Remind 101 text asking anyone if they could film the game against Servite. I immediately jumped on Facebook Messenger and messaged him saying that if he didn’t have anyone, that I would be willing to do it because I was already going to the game. After he told me I could do it, I got extremely happy. I had all my friends on the cheer team and football team, so I would be able to be on the field with them and “fit in.” FullSizeRender (6)

Showing up to the game and not knowing where to go or even how to get in was a new kind of shy I had never felt before. Especially with it being an away game, the only other person I knew was Corey. Being on the field was a different feeling. Seeing all the players close up and noticing every little detail that you couldn’t notice from the stands was exhilarating.  The first game was a real learning experience. Finding out which settings on the camera would be best and figuring out which angles and shots would portray the game in the best way possible was hard. With the sun setting, the lighting drastically changed about half-way through the game. Making sure you were in the correct areas we were permitted to be in and making sure you weren’t going to get attacked by the players was hard. This first game will forever be embedded in my brain as one of the best experiences I will ever have in high school.  After that game, Dustin said that Corey and I would be filming football this year, along with a few other people.

Another stand out game for me was Bell Game. Even though we lost, the loud crowd from both Edison’s and our side were amazing. I think that game stood out for me because of two reasons. 1, it is the most popular game of the year and 2, a lot of my friends were on the football team. You could feel the angriness and sadness from the players. It was a tough game for them and they tried their hardest. None the less, it was a pretty fun game to film.

Filming football has always been one of my dreams when I joined BBN. I will have these memories with me forever. To my  partner Corey, you were always someone who I could talk to and rely on if I needed anything, we were a team. I will be forever thankful that you were the person that I had to go through this with. Filming a contact sport like football was amazing and I am so glad that I was able to be a part of it.

P.S. Shout out to the football players from FV and Long Beach Wilson who almost killed me while I was filming. (-:
