There are many ROP courses offered to Fountain Valley High School students that are both on or off campus. Mark Irons and Matt Matthews want to open a new course dealing with music production on campus during school hours. This potential ROP course will be limited to upperclassmen only.

The class will focus on the use of making back tracks, splicing samples, acoustic engineering, live audio, sound proofing, creating film scores and making tracks in general. Students will learn how to do all of these things using Apple’s GarageBand or Microsoft’s Pro Tools.

Students who want to enroll in the music technology course for the next school year do not need to have a background in music. This course is open for any students with interest in music production or that have an undecided career choice.

“I felt like there was a need for that class because we have a lot of kids who take band, or orchestra. They are great programs but this gives people an opportunity to do music a little bit more on their own terms. You don’t necessarily need to be a music or band person to do it, you can be someone who is interested in production,” Matthews, an associate director of instrumental music, said.

Matthews also says that the course will be useful for dancers or cheerleaders who want to learn how to create their own dance tracks.

The class will be a project based learning and self taught class lead by Irons and Matthews. If the course does manage to open up, the class will be held in the Mac Computer Lab, room 303. To open up the course 100 students need to sign and interest form and from there the class will be reduced to 20-30 students. Students can go to room 310 to pick up an interest form from Irons or Matthews. If any student is interested in the class, please fill out the interest form as soon as possible.

About Sandra On

Cello player for the FVHS orchestra, historian for Friday Night Live, member of Illumination club and is a Gryffindor; Sandra On is one busy Junior. On top of all that, she sings, plays the cello, and plays the piano for her band The Treble Theory. "We're working on an album right now. Pretty proud!", said Sandra. Sandra loves pretty much any Indie music, any genre. Even Irish folk classic! She also enjoys punk, alternative, and classical music. Criminal Minds, Once Upon a Time and Blacklist are one of her many favorite TV shows. When it comes to movies, she doesn't really mind what the genre is. There's only one exception: "Any Nicholas Spark movies, I HATE! Absolutely do not like", said Sandra. Along with her musical talents and interests, Sandra has a mind for reading, filming and photography. Whenever she's travelling, she's always taking pictures. She has a YouTube channel, where she uploads vlog-type videos that aren't very dialogue heavy and focus more on the world rather than the person. In addition to that, she makes motivational videos. In her own words, "Videos that you watch and get inspired by. This could be you, why are you sitting here doing nothing?". To Sandra, Baron Banner is yet another way for her to get involved at FVHS. She loves writing and wants to tell a story about the school. People get misconceptions, and she wants to write the truth. After a reserved freshman year and a year of outgoing reformation in 10th grade, Sandra is ready to start realizing her true potential in her junior year as a Baron.
