On Tuesday, Sept. 12th, Girl’s Varsity Field Hockey went against Chaminade High School. Despite their best efforts, they lost to them with the score of 1-6.

The game started out with each team playing aggressively on defense and offense. The team fiercely defended as the opponents attempted to score. One notable player, Queen La (‘18), with her defensive skills, was able to defend against the opposing team with her quick actions.

However, things started to escalate as Chaminade scored their first point after almost 20 minutes into the first half of the game. Chaminade kept their streak of points going, and by halftime our home team was down 0-3.

During half time, the girls gathered to discuss strategies and exchange words of encouragement amongst one another as they headed out for the second half of the game, determined to score and turn the tide.

The girls defended the goal from Chaminade’s attempts at scoring many times with their exceptional, strong defense. The opposing team kept their streak going as the score increased to 0-5 with 15 minutes left in the second half of the game. Rearing towards the end of the game the Barons scored their first goal and got on the board. This shot renewed the already strong motivation of the girls as they fought to tie the score.

Although in spite of their hard efforts, the game ended 1-6 as the Barons were not able to score against the opposing team again. Despite their loss, the girls never lost spirit and were motivated constantly throughout the game shouting words of encouragement to their teammates, getting everyone excited.

“I think we had a good time playing with each other, but there are definitely things we need to improve on,” Amy Hatfield (‘18) said.

The girls are prepared to work harder and improve their offense runs while spreading the field as well as maintaining their strong defense. The team hopes to be victorious against Glendora on Thursday, September 15.
