Last Saturday, the cross country team competed in Sunset League Finals at Huntington Beach Central Park racing the three mile against the rest of the Sunset League. The varsity boys finished in 4th place with top finishers Marc Tadros (’18), Amogha Dahal (’17), Kevin Zimmerle (’19), Tanner Grohmann (’18) and Nico Barber (’18).

“I’m a little disappointed but I’m satisfied with the effort that our guys gave, we had a few slip ups but people have bad days some times and that happens,” said Dahal.

The girls put up an unprecedented performance that won them the Sunset League. Five of their runners ran as a pack through the whole race and ended up finishing from 4th to 8th place. The runners were Ashley Faller (’19), Sara Fietz (’19), Isabella Guerra (’19), Kristen Prado (’17) and Maddie Jahshan (’19). This performance will also allow them to compete at CIF.

“I’m really excited that we get to go to CIF and I’m really happy that we were able to stay together as a pack and a team,” said Prado.

With both teams showing improvement from Sunset League Preliminaries, Coach Jerry Palazzo was pleased with not only the performance of the varsity teams but of the freshmen teams as well.

Palazzo said, “Frosh-soph boys came on great they won it again, it shows that the future is coming, it’s my first season with the boys and my third season with the girls so we still got some work to do.”

According to Coach Palazzo, the future of Fountain Valley cross country is bright and it showed in their performance.
