On Saturday, October 29th, Fountain Valley High School’s Mock Trial team competed at the third annual JSerra Mock Trial Competition. Taking place at the Junipero Serra High School, Fountain Valley competed with about 12 other teams from Orange County. They left the tournament winning both of their trials for both performances of the prosecution and defense.

This mock trial competition is the “dress rehearsal” for the start of their season. This is a great way for the team to get some feedback, and improve even more as the actual competition season comes up.

The first trial was against Santa Ana Red, where pretrial attorney Adam Mancini (‘17) took the stand. After a successful pretrial argument, attorneys Ally Lenguyen (‘17), Kaitlyn Truong (‘18), and Divya Seth (‘17) stepped up to steal the spotlight. With their directs, cross-examinations, and strong appearances, all those reflected off their win in this round.

The prosecution then took to the stage going against the JSerra Sophomore Team, starting with Jane Liu with the pretrial argument. After an incredible pretrial performance from Liu,  prosecution attorneys then took the stand with Kyla Alberto (‘18), Hannah Brine (‘18), and Evelyn Hoang (‘17). Each attorney had extremely strong performances that led Fountain Valley to sweep up another win.

At the end of each trial, there was an MVP award for a student who stood out of the whole trial chosen by the opposing team. Alex Nguyen (‘17) and Evelyn Hoang (‘17) were chosen for their strong performance in the trial.

Teacher Coach Sara LaFramboise commented on their wins saying, “I am so incredibly proud of our performance, we won both of our rounds, and everyone on the team brought their best and did really fantastically.”

As they get close to the season, the team is prepared for the upcoming rounds at the Santa Ana courthouse.

Lenguyen said,”As long as everyone puts their best foot forward and we shake off all the little things that we saw that didn’t work at JSerra, we’re going to be ready to win State [competition] this year.”

Mock Trial will be on the stand again for their first round on November 15th at the Santa Ana Courthouse.
