Fountain Valley High School’s (FVHS) varsity girls’ golf team obliterated their opponents from Esperanza High School this Tuesday with a final score of 194-227 at their home course, Mile Square Park. The Barons’ team score of 194 from Tuesday stands as the lowest group score shot by the FVHS girls’ golf team in more than 15 years.

With an all-around strong team performance, junior Misty Le and freshmen Milan Nguyen and Madison Le played a big part in the team’s success. Both Misty Le and Madison Le ended up with individual scores of 37 while Nguyen was able to shoot a score of 35, one shot under par.

All the ladies’ short games and long games were fairly solid, allowing them to set themselves far ahead of Esperanza from the start.

“Anh Nguyen made a 25-foot putt from the fringe [of the green] for par. Jessica Fonseca’s, our captain, drives went really far and straight today. Madison Le made really good chips today that allowed her to make in easy tap-in birdies and pars,” said junior Heather Thinh.

The match was an easy win for the Lady Barons, as they were able to maintain their low scores throughout the game.

“Everyone kept positive through good and bad shots and that really boosted our morale. We shot our best score in years at our home course and everyone is excited for what the rest of the season has to come,” said Thinh.

The girls’ next match will also be at Mile Square Golf Course next Tuesday. They will be teeing off at 3:30 p.m. to play against Lakewood High School.
