Barons field hockey shuts out Lancers

On Tuesday, the varsity field hockey team conquered Thousand Oaks High School with the score of 5-0.

The Barons started the game off strong with a goal scored by junior center forward Madison Grogan. The offense continued to break through the Lancer’s defense and collected four offensive short corners, one that resulted in another goal from Grogan.

In the second quarter, the Barons continued their aggressive offense against Thousand Oaks but were penalized with their first two defensive short corners of the game. The Lancers had a few close attempts to score but ultimately failed as senior center defender, powerhouse Maya Kvesic and senior side defender Lina Lu blocked and were able to keep the score 2-0 going into halftime

In the third quarter, the Barons continued their offensive spark with a goal from senior side midfielder Keilani Velasco and a goal from senior midfielder Kelly Vu.

Despite their 4-0 lead in the fourth quarter, the Barons’ offense refused to let up as Grogan scored once more by to bring the score up to 5-0.

Towards the end of the fourth quarter, the Barons were penalized five defensive short corners but the Barons’ defense prevailed and completed their shutout of the Lancers 5-0.

“We played a great game and it was a promising start to the season,” said Grogan.
