On Tuesday, the girls’ varsity volleyball team lost to the Laguna Beach Breakers with a final score of 0-3.

The first set started off well with an ace by junior Sadie Templin. The Barons kept a tie score, but they started to slip after a few mistakes. Great effort came from junior Phoebe Minch who scored two points, but it wasn’t enough. The first set ended with a score of 13-25.

Although they lost the first set, the Barons continued to play with high hopes, but after a false start resulting in a point for the opposing team, they began to slip. Refusing to give up, the Barons came back with strong plays from junior Rachel Lucie and Minch, who both scored two points. A speaker ball and a long rally resulted in another two points for the Barons to bring the score up to 17-22. Although they fought hard, the second set ended with another loss of 19-25.

Having lost two sets, their chances of winning were slim, but the Barons continued to play valiantly. Lucie scored another two points and Minch scored a kill, but in the end, the Breakers prevailed and won the final set with a score of  11-25.

Exceptional players included Minch, who scored a total of five points and Lucie, who scored four.

“I think the game went okay. The team was really good, but we just need to practice on working together more. In the next game, I’m looking for us to do better with our communication and our refs; they were not on our side tonight. But I hope we can work together, play hard and have fun,” said junior Sadie Templin.

The game wasn’t a total loss as it was Breast Cancer Awareness night, with the team wearing pink in support. A bake sale and raffle was held to raise money for the Allen family, longtime friends of Head Coach Taylor Packer.

“The game went well, they did good, it was fun and it was pink night so we had everyone come out in their pink. The girls played well, not one of our best games, but they still played. I hope we win a game so we can go to CIF,” said Coach Packer.
