On Tuesday, the Barons’ varsity field hockey team defeated Great Oak High School with the score 1-0.

Within the first three minutes of the first quarter, the Barons showed a spark with an attempted goal from sophomore right forward Taryn Robinson and junior center forward Madison Grogan. However, despite strong offense from the Barons they were unable to score in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Baron’s offense intensified against Great Oak with excellent aggressive gameplay from senior center midfielder Chantelle Sanchez, senior side midfielder Keilani Velasco, Robinson and Grogan. The Barons had multiple attempts to score and got two more offensive shorts halfway through the second quarter but were still unable to score.

Despite the offensive attempts towards the Wolfpack, the halftime score was 0-0.

Great Oak went on the offensive in the third quarter. The Barons became more defensive with excellent aggressive plays from senior center defender Maya Kvesic and junior sweeper defender Mackenzie Esquer.

The Wolfpack made many last-minute bids to up the score but the Barons refused to give up and scored one goal by sophomore side midfielder Courtney Ngo as the match ended in 1-0.

“The thing about sports games is that whoever wants to win more is the team who will, especially in a score of 0-0 situation.  Our passion and dedication shined through when we pushed past the negative comments and attitudes of the other team and rose above.  Bad attitudes will ruin your team. We kept ours positive, and we pulled out a win. I couldn’t be more proud of my teammates,” said Robinson.
