Last Friday, the boys’ volleyball team went up against the Marina Vikings in a close, nail-biting game. With a score of 3-0, this is the first home win for the season.

In the first set, senior William Burney brought the heat with the first block of the night. Kills from senior Justin Loy helped bring the score to 12-7 within the first ten minutes. Free points from the Vikings also gave the Barons an advantage with a score of 21-17. Quick rallies in favor of the Barons led to the ending score of 25-21.

The second set became interesting as Loy killed the ball, hitting a Viking in the face and scoring the point. Sophomores James Templin and Anton Pham came up with many blocks, diminishing all potential kills from the other side. In a quick set, the Barons ended with a score of 25-11.

A shaky start to the third set kept the Barons on their toes, but senior Marcelo Ponce raised their spirits with a kill to bring the score to 1-3. A delay due to the referees caused a slow comeback for both sides. Near the end, the score was 19-21 and hope seemed to diminish once again until kills from Ponce and Pham brought the score to 21-21. A rally followed with senior Garret Poe saving the ball from hitting the divider. Multiple blocks and good plays from Poe caused the loud crowd to cheer even louder. The Barons ended the final set with a block by Loy and a score of 29-27.
