On Wednesday, the boys’ varsity soccer team faced off against Huntington Beach High School, winning with a score of 2-1.

In the first half of the match, the Barons were strong on offense, pushing into the Oilers’ side of the field.

Senior Dakota Whitsel scored the first goal 15 minutes into the game. The remainder of the first half was characterized by intense back-and-forth action.

During the second half, the Barons came close to scoring several goals but were continually blocked by the Oilers. Fountain Valley’s defense faltered, but they were able to guard their goal for the most part. With 17 minutes left in the second half, the Oilers brought scored to tie the game.

The tempo of the game then increased as both sides sought to break the tie before time ran out. Junior Sebastian Rus scored Fountain Valley’s second goal in the 66th minute on a penalty kick.

“It was a hard-fought game. I think we all played well together and connected balls well. Huntington came out hard but we came out harder,” junior Cantor Wright said.

The boys are now first place in the Sunset Wave League with a 7-6-3 record overall and 3-0-1 record in league play. Come support the Barons at their last game of the season against Marina High School next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
