With an abundance of clubs on our campus, you might be tempted to join in on the fun and create your own club too. If that’s the case then you’re in luck because there is a way for you to make your own with simple steps.

1. Figure out the idea for your club.

Every club is focused around a specific topic whether it based on an academic subject, volunteering, athletics, cultures or more. After that, decide whether your club falls into the status of a curricular club or an equal access club.

“Curricular clubs are related to the school’s curriculum and have an account in the ASB office, while equal access clubs do not have an account nor [will] be able to fundraise,” said ASB member Francine Tran.

2. Fill out paperwork regarding your club goals and guidelines.

You can find this paperwork on baronactivities.com. Make sure to pick an advisor for your club as well.

“Sometimes it is difficult to get the paperwork correct especially since a lot of people are unfamiliar with the bylaws surrounding a club. For example, you’re not allowed to charge someone to join the club,” said Senior Madison Grogan, co-founder of Scholastic Society.

Then you need to assemble a group of students who can serve on the board for your club and determine what each position is responsible for. (While you’re at it, you can also gather a list of potential members as well.)

3. Submit your paperwork to the office by the end of May or beginning of June and wait for approval.

While some of these steps may be challenging, you can easily overcome them with the right group of people. There can be many benefits and rewards that come with making your own club.

“Making your own club is a great way to grow in the club’s interests and your own. Without a doubt, the club will teach you so much more than just having that particular position. Every meeting, event, fundraiser will add into your experience for the future,” said Tran. “Making your own club builds into the strong foundation of confidence, consistency, and hard work. Every position comes with its ups and downs, however, in the end, its outcome is what truly matters. The friendships that are created is truly irreplaceable, the memories are likewise.”
