Thanksgiving Day this year will be Nov. 26, 2020 as Thanksgiving is always celebrated the third Thursday of November every year. Thanksgiving, a celebration dated back to 1621 when the Pilgrims and Native Americans celebrated the Plymouth Colony’s first successful fall harvest, will look a lot different in 2020.

With that in mind, here are some activities to do as a family. In regards to COVID-19, you should follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations and attend no gatherings this year. If in the process of doing any of these activities, you need to go outside, make sure you wear a mask and socially distance.

Text five to ten friends to show your gratitude

Although showing your appreciation towards others should be all year, Thanksgiving Day is one that lets you focus on what you have and what you’re grateful for. Telling others how they make a difference in your life is crucial and makes Thanksgiving day a lot happier for everyone.

Draw your family tree

Have you ever wondered what your great grandparents’ names are? Do you know how their life was or what they did for a living? You never know what you can find out—maybe one of your grandparents was a celebrity, fire-fighter, or even an astronaut. Ask your family questions and learn interesting facts about your family you may have never known if you otherwise didn’t ask.

Help with making thanksgiving food with your family

Food is an important part of Thanksgiving. If you’ve never helped out with making food for Thanksgiving Day with your family, this year is another opportunity to double the fun and make Thanksgiving foods. You can try a new pie recipe that you’ve been wanting to make.

Decorate your home

On Thanksgiving day, you can take the opportunity to get crafty and decorate your whole home. Buying candles and fall plants are a great way to give your home a fall vibe that matches Thanksgiving Day. This will also change how your home looks which will take away any boredom you had by being in the same space every day especially if you’re attending school, studying, sleeping and waking up at the same place.

Watch Thanksgiving movies

Watching movies about Thanksgiving is a good way to relax after eating all the different Thanksgiving foods. It’s also a way to take a break from current events, pandemic and school.

Karaoke party

Having a karaoke contest at the end of the day will wrap up the day on a fun activity. Singing is both fun and proven to be an effective way to relieve stress. It’s an activity that will help clear your mind from anything that’s taking a toll on you.

Even though there’s many activities that can be done on Thanksgiving Day, it’s most importantly a day to give thanks, show your appreciation to others and reflect on what you’re grateful for as you’re having fun with your family.
