In their second game of the season, the varsity baseball team brought home a victory over Ocean View High School with a score of 6-2.

The Barons started off with good pitching and fielding in the top of the first inning, successfully keeping the Seahawks from scoring. However, they faltered when batting in the bottom half of the inning and were unable to score.

They continued with excellent pitching in the second inning, but this time, their batting improved. Senior Conor DeBenon scored a single that allowed his teammate to reach home base and earn their first point.

“I think we played well. We did everything we needed to do. We got our bunts down, executed, and at the end of the day it led to a 6-2 win,” DeBenon said.

In the third inning, the trend continued with junior Blake Wentz’s pitching achieving a few strikes. Junior Ryder Brooks hit a single that allowed Fountain Valley to score another point and bring the total to 2-0.

The team didn’t score in the fourth inning, but they rapidly earned three more points in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a great batting effort from several players.

Pitching slacked in the sixth inning; the Seahawks took advantage and scored twice. But by the seventh inning, strong pitching from the Barons prevented Ocean View from making anymore runs and ended the game with a 6-2 win.

Head coach Deric Yanagisawa says that the outcome was due to good performances from all parts of the team.

“I thought we played really well. Our pitchers put in strikes, we played defense, and we were able to execute on offense, and when you do that in high school baseball, you’re gonna win a lot of games,” Yanagisawa said.
