Barons’ track outruns Edison in dual meet

On Mar. 17, the Barons’ co-ed track team had a dual-meet against the Edison Chargers. The Barons emerged victorious with a score of 83-52 for girls and 86-37 for boys.

Running

The meet kicked off with the 4×100-meter relays. Edison finished first in both races with 50.22 seconds in the girls’ and 43.89 in the boys’.

The 1600-meter races continued next. Senior Leah Ferris and junior Kiera Tallas finished first and second with times of 5:32 and 5:34. Juniors Wylie Cleugh and Benjamin Prado placed second and third in the boys’ race with 4:45 and 4:46.

In the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, senior Laney Wang took third place with a time of 17.30. Senior Madison Haugh and junior Ladyn Wang took fourth and third with times of 17.90 and 18.69 seconds. The boys’ 110-meter hurdles proceeded with senior Brian Chau coming through at 16.72 seconds in third place. Junior Zuri Sherry and senior Gavin Schuld followed with times at 16.78 and 16.99 seconds.

Senior Kaho Cichon finished first in the girls’ 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:00.12. Finishing second was senior Crystal Nguyen who was close behind at 1:03:03. In the boys’ 400-meter, senior Aidan Sapp was first with 52.31 seconds and junior Jack Todd in fourth with 53.33 seconds.

The girls’ 100-meter dash eventually followed, with senior Aubri Le and junior Rachel Berg second and third at 12.80 and 13.03 seconds. Second and third in the boys’ 100-meter dash were senior Tyler Gioia and junior Jonathan Yu with times of 11:18 and 11:28, respectively.

Junior Evelyn To finished first in the girls’ 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.14 and senior Kaci Manthorne was second with a time of 2:46.15. Their male counterparts junior Luke Dias and senior Brandon Bivens finished first and fourth with times of 1:59 and 2:10.

In the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, senior Madison Haugh came in second with 50.66 seconds and junior Sophia Menchine followed close behind at 53.01. For the boys, seniors Gavin Schuld and Lucas Le finished first and fifth.

Aubri Le and Crystal Nguyen were first and second in the girls’ 200-meter dash, finishing with times of 26.60 and 26.66. In the boys’ 200-meter, senior Luke Wilfert and junior Abrahim Elrachid came through first and third with respective times of 23.00 and 23.31.

In the girls’ 3200-meter run, junior Jennifer Nguyen came in first at 15:02 and senior Michelle Nguyen followed closely behind at 15:19. Sophomore Diego Alonso and junior Benjamin Prado came first and second with times of 10:10 and 10:13.

The final race of the meet was the 4×400-meter. The girls’ team finished with 4:31 in the girls’ 4×400-meter run, with Edison not participating. The boys had a lead on Edison finishing with a time of 3:30, whereas Edison finished at 3:34.

Field Events

In the girls’ pole vault, juniors Isabella Abrahams and Kiarah Palacio finished first and second. Senior Fabian Gavia and Zuri Sherry also swept the top places.

In the high jump, seniors Zayna Reid and Karlee Giuntoli came in second and fourth. Senior Lucas Le and junior Jeremiah Whitmore finished second and third in the boys’ high jump.

The long jump followed with Laney Wang and Karlee Giuntoli in second and third. Their male counterparts Jonathan Yu and Brian Chau finished first and fourth.

Junior Katelyn Truong and sophomore Thyan Tran were second and third in the varsity triple jump, with Lucas Le and Brian Chau in second and third in the males’ triple jump.

In the discus throw, junior Madison Dinh and senior Yaman Abbas finished second and third. Seniors Andrew Liu and Andrew Johnson also did well, finishing first and second.

The final field event was the shot put. In the girls’ shot put, Yaman Abbas and Madison Dinh placed second and third. Senior Nicolas Mendez came in at first for the boys.

The Barons’ next home dual meet will be against Huntington Beach on Apr. 5 at 2:45 p.m.
