Enter a performance of a tale as old as time with Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) Theatre’s latest production of “Beauty and the Beast.”

The play is a reenactment of Disney’s version of “Beauty and the Beast,” in which a beautiful and smart village girl falls in love with a cursed and monstrous beast.

Being the third production of the year, Theatre truly brings the magic to life with “Beauty and the Beast.”  Through their dance choreography, their realistic costume designs and the theatrical set up, the long hours and hard work spent paid off.

Dance auditions took place on February 2 while music auditions took place on Feb. 3 and callbacks occurred on Feb. 4. Callbacks are an invitation to return for a second audition leading to the final cast and crew.

A lot of factors had to be taken into consideration—some being costumes, the stage set and finances, as well as working around the set and the costumes themselves.

“One of the hardest things in the show was the costumes,” choreographer and senior Hailey Hosilyk said. “We ended up renting costumes but making someone look like a clock and a dresser was going to be too hard to make so renting something more professional was our best option.”

Another aspect of this play was its entertaining dance choreographies.

“Choreography was also working around what the costumes were like and had to be changed due to them and the size of the stage,” Hosilyk said.

In addition to the dance numbers and costumes, a touch of magic came from the theatre set up as well.

“During the planning process, we had to measure out how big the platforms/backstage area would be and how far it could go to not block any of the audience members. We also had to level out risers on the hill,” technical director and senior Robert Macey said. “We had to use levels to make sure that the seats were even and audience members could look straight ahead to see the show.”

Theatre managed to overcome all these obstacles and put on an amazing show, pleasing their audience and making great memories along the way.

Although the petals of the enchanted rose have fallen and it may be too late to catch this show, be prepared for FVHS Theatre’s upcoming show. You can purchase tickets on the FVHS Theatre website.
