When looking for places to have dessert, a donut place never disappoints. However, with countless donut shops at every single corner, which one is considered the best place to have these sugary delicacies?

We present you with your new favorite spot to fulfill those sweet cravings of yours. OC Crafted Donuts, a local business located at Fountain Valley, crafts its donuts from scratch every morning to ensure that they prepare joy on every customer’s face.

“I love putting a smile on people’s faces and who doesn’t smile when they get a box of donuts?” Co-owner Mac Uy said.

Once we opened the door we were cast into a Simpsons-inspired world and the sugary donut smell mixed with coffee overwhelmed our noses.

With Uy’s creativity and freedom translated into donuts, it’s no surprise that we found some of the most unique and extraordinary donut flavors displayed behind the counter.

The many donut colors and flavors were very tempting but after much consideration, we decided on five donuts, including some of their most popular ones, ranked from our most to least favorite.

#1 PB&J

If you like to start your day with peanut butter and jelly, then ditch your boring PBJ toast and make this your new breakfast!

If the little heart made out of jelly in the middle of the donut did not already call on your taste buds, the taste definitely will. As we took our first bite, the jelly oozed out and balanced out the savory peanut butter. The donut itself was not tooth-achingly sweet and the bits of peanuts sprinkled along the edges are perfect for peanut butter lovers.

#2 Nutella S’more

Sit back and let this donut bring you back to your favorite summer bonfires.

It did not take much convincing for us to pick out this donut because the toasted marshmallows sitting on the graham cracker at the top were mouth-watering. The donut has a delicate Nutella chocolate flavor perfectly balanced with the crumbly cracker and the fluffy toasted marshmallows that all serve to give you the perfect bonfire feeling. While you may only be able to make s’mores at a bonfire during summer, you can definitely enjoy this donut every day throughout the year.

#3 Banan Cream Pie

It’s no surprise that this is one of the owner’s go-to’s and it’s now ours too!

Not a fan of artificial flavors? If yes, then you will definitely be a fan of this donut. Our favorite thing about this donut was the natural banana flavor. Along with the vanilla wafer and the whipped cream, this donut is truly reminiscent of a delicious banana pudding. And while this donut is huge, you will be chewing your last bite due to its light scrumptious taste. Next time you find yourself craving a refreshing dessert, do not hesitate to try that luxurious donut!

#4 Almond Joy

This donut was on the house as the owner was very insistent that we try this donut flavor and we definitely understood why as we bit into it!

The almond joy was a coconut delight sprinkled with almond and coconut shavings. The coconut shavings were light and the sweetness was not cavity-inducing making it easy to enjoy. If you have a liking for caramel delight girl scout cookies, these donuts taste just like them with the coconut shavings on the top and a saltier glaze just beneath. Overall, this donut was enjoyable and in our opinion, better than the almond joy candy bar. So instead of giving out an Almond Joy next Halloween, consider celebrating the season with this donut!

#5 Blueberry with Blueberry Glaze

Blueberry is a classic for both breakfast and dessert however, this blueberry donut missed the mark for us.

The blueberry glaze on the top added a beautiful pop of color to the donut and made us excited to try it. However, as we bit into it we were overwhelmed with the taste of artificial blueberry. Besides the donut glaze being blueberry flavored, the donut had chunks of blueberry mixed with the dough that created a double blueberry taste which we did not find appealing. The taste was very artificial and failed to remind us of natural blueberry that usually comes with a subtle sour touch. Thus, we will be sticking with our store-bought blueberries in order to experience the authentic relish of the fruit.

#6 Maple Bacon

Yes that’s right, a chocolate donut topped with maple bacon! We were just as surprised as you when we saw it from the display but we decided to go out of our comfort zone and try this questionable combination.

From the first bite, we knew we were not going to be fans of the sweet and savory mixture of this donut. While the chocolate was indulgent, the salt and smoke of the bacon on top prevented us from enjoying the chocolate’s tang. However, we have to admit that the bacon was perfectly fresh. Perhaps we could have shown more appreciation for this donut if the crispy bacon and delicate chocolate were separated. Although we will probably not be picking this donut for our weekend breakfast, at least now we know that Uy was not lying about the donuts’ creative flavors.

The OC Crafted Donuts shop was definitely one of our top places for donuts with the wide range of donut selections allowing everyone to choose what’s just right for them. Show your support to the community and let your taste buds thank you by dropping by this local business. And while you sit there to enjoy your flavorful donuts, grab one of their many coloring pages and let the tasty flavors guide you into creating your own masterpiece!
