The Secret Circle

The Secret Circle is a new show on the CW that premiered on September 15th. It tells the story of a sixteen-year-old girl named Cassie Blake (played by Britt Robertson) who, after the sudden and horrifying death of her mother, must move in with her grandmother and go to a new school at Chance Harbor, Washington. At Chance Harbor, Cassie finds he finds out that (a) her mother was a witch, (b) she is one too, (c) she is a descendant of one of six witch families in the town, and (d) now that she has moved back to Chance Harbor, where her mother grew up, the other five teenage descendants

have the opportunity to “bind the Circle.” However, the teenagers do not know whether or not they should bind the Circle because, although it is not fully explained in the Pilot, it will somehow affect the powers of all the members of the Circle.

Like most of the other dramas on the CW, The Secret Circle has pretty people in a pretty town facing some pretty interesting problems. If you like The Vampire Diaries, you’ll probably like this show, especially since both series are based off of books written by the same author. However, The Secret Circle seems to be aiming for a slightly younger audience than The Vampire Diaries, given that the main character is about a year or two younger than the main character of The Vampire Diaries, and the show doesn’t seem quite as dark. All in all, with its promising series premiere, The Secret Circle has the potential to be a captivating drama, as long as the writers play their cards right and keep the action well-paced and the actors do not disappoint with their performances.

The Secret Circle airs Thursdays on the CW (Channel 5) at 9:00 P.M., right after The Vampire Diaries.
