Starting off the season with a triumph, the Varsity Girls Water Polo team finished strong in the Varsity Western Tournament held last week.

The Varsity Girls Water Polo team dived into their second tournament of the season last week against five league titles, ending up in an overall record of 1-0.

The first game was against Savanna High School, ending up in a lost with a very close scoreboard of 7-6.

The girls played their second game against Los Al but unfortunately lost.

In the third game, they lost with a very close score of 7-6.

Quickly bouncing back, the fourth game against Katella High School sealed the Lady Barons with a win of 12-1, marking their first win of the tournament.

Entering in the final game, Fountain Valley girls faced Western High School, which successfully played into a victorious score of 6-5 leading the team to bring home a total of two wins.

“We have improved so much from when I first joined this team two years ago. I’m expecting great things in our future, including improvement and teamwork in all our upcoming games,” Kayla Borack (’16) said.

Last week girls varsity lost a league game (2-15)  against Marina, but that did not discourage them from trying hard at this tournament.

“We went into those games knowing that we could win if we put our minds to it,” Borack said.

“Overall, I felt like we did really well in this tournament. Compared to where we were last year at this time, we have completely grown and improved so much,” Borack said. “It’s incredible to see this team go from a small 18-girl team to a striving 28-girl squad. I couldn’t be prouder of all of my teammates.”
